Hypnotic and driving ! Very cool !
Sort of like a cool Freddy Hubbard arrangement, only with a straight rockin' egde, this piece is both hypnotic and driving! Very cool!
The sound has the drive and energy of a cookin' live performance, with tight report between some pretty hot players, all mindful of the dynamics and feel they're layin' down here. Very smooth.
Uptempo and straight-ahead, the bass line swings the essence of this jammin' groove. The drums are rock solid. Keyboards and guitarwork take this number to flight, while the delightfully nimble dexterity of the trumpet player's soft and soaring tones gives it a sailing, soaring soul. Outstanding!
Steady as an arrow, this number glimmers and glides as it builds to a slow-rising crescendo. Never breaking stride, the players pour it on hot and heavy, trading solos and building off one another.
A soft bridge brings the dynamics down to a smooth build-up just before the trumpets stes the sound on fire with ripping chops and brilliant staccatos -- awesome! Everyone's together, on target and on time. These guys are cookin' it up!
The piece is a steaming stew of flavors ranging from Santana hypnosis, to Miles Davis finese, to Earth Wind & Fire punch -- an amazingly full sound!
The mix is balanced well enough to hear every instrument, no one overshadowing another, yet it seems flat somehow -- not in a bad way, but just not with enough presence or clarity -- it's really difficult to explain... Maybe not loud enough - maybe not hot enough mic mixes -- yet everything's right there, clean and clear.
Nonetheless, the performance is fantastic, the energy through the roof, and the execution precise throughout the arrangement. At nearly eleven minutes long, it still doesn't seem long enough - this tune wants to rock the house down - and it almost does before it cuts out at the end!
This would be a great live show to experience! This performance could energize the whole town! Excellent show, guys! Bravo!
